Porsche 928 S4 for sale - £SOLD
Porsche 928 S4 5.0 Litre V8 with 4-Speed Auto 1998
Diamond Blue Metallic with Full Black Leather interior
This particular car is 1 of 3 currently for sale with us from the same in store owner.
He has several cars and bikes with us and keeps them all under our ultimate Care Package. He is a relatively active owner and has a growing eclectic collection.
However, to make way for something else he has decided to let this 928 S4 Auto change hands to hopefully another fellow enthusiast.
Previously coming out of long term ownership this Porsche 928 S4 has been displayed regularly at classic car shows and is well known via the 928.ORG, Porsche Club GB and TIPEC (The Independent Porsche Enthusiasts Club) members.
This particular example is finished in Diamond Blue Metallic with a Full Black Leather interior and is the 5.0 litre V8 Petrol engine, with the 4-speed Auto transmission.
It’s got the analogue dash, ABS, Air-Con, Sunroof, Electric Driver (with memory) and Front Passenger seat adjustment. When new this car was capable of 171mph, and 0-60mph in 5.8 seconds, thanks to its 320HP 430Nm engine.
With a current reading just under 148,000 miles on the odometer, the car is in good condition and continues to be reliable and dependable.
She is also fitted with genuine Porsche Cup 1 alloys, together with body-coloured teardrop mirrors and rear spoiler inspired by the later GTS.
The interior is black full-leather, complimented by a Porsche 3-spoke leather steering wheel, with deep Porsche 928 mats for comfort and protection.
Being model-year 1988 this car benefits from ABS, but it does not have a Catalytic Convertor, so no costly replacement need be factored in.
The car has been thoroughly examined on the ramp by Charles Marsland who remains a technical consultant for Porsche Club GB, and though now retired ran an independent Porsche Specialist Servicing operation in Luton for many years so knows the transaxles equally as well as the 911.
His opinion was that the car is generally in good condition, showed no evidence of any damage or accident repair, and was unquestionably worth getting the gearbox overhauled which needed attention at that time. He sorted out the jammed sunroof, removed some floppy plastic air-ducting material from the front-grill which he said is a common cause of overheating, and gave the car a basic service.
The car was at the gearbox specialists in Erith for a few weeks and they also attended to the differential which they said also needed attention.
The previous owner also went to the length of getting the local Official Porsche Centre at Tonbridge to carry out extensive works to replace fuel lines, replace the brakes, change cambelt and water-pump, and attend to the Idle Control Valve. They also fitted a Ritech flex-plate clamp.
The MAF has also been replaced by JDS Porsche which made a big difference to the pick up.
Over time paintwork attention included taking care of the usual small rust spots that were forming around the rear, together with resolving some minor cracking to the paint on the front PU. On their removing the rear quarter windows a more serious rust patch became evident and this was resolved by Autospray too.
As with any car of this vintage there’s always details to resolve, and fettling to do, but cosmetically and mechanically we consider this car to look and drive well and it has proven to be utterly dependable (previous long term owner of 9 years words).
The A/C was fully overhauled early-on including replacing the condenser, compressor, and many pneumatic silicon valves. A recent re-gass confirmed no leaks. It continues to blow nice and cold when wanted, and properly holds the selected temperature.
Further to the above paperwork it can also be seen that in 2018 it was serviced by one of the two UK 928 ‘experts’, in this case Chris Sanderson at Loe Bank near Bury, and he did a full service and checked the car over confirming that all is well.
The car is taxed, tested and ready to go with the only reportable defect the owner is aware of is the cruise control.
There is a large file of invoices for the various works carried out along with supporting MOT paperwork.
2 keys are present along with the original handbook and service records, and most of the original toolkit (though not the original compressor), the original poly-carbonate spare wheel well cover, the original spare wheel, boot carpet, plus a load net and rear cover.
Five things to note:
i) a previous owner had installed a double-height entertainment system which was then removed, but in doing so they cut away the clock which now has a blanking plate instead
ii) there is a kerb-chipped lacquer-coat on the front nearside alloy
iii) the instrument-pod gear-selector lamp for “2” doesn’t illuminate and “3” can sometimes blink-intermittently (though “D” is fine)
iv) the fuel-gauge has always read about a quarter-tank ‘low’ (so shows ¾ when fully filled) but the LOW-FUEL indicator correctly lights when about 50-miles is remaining.
v) there is some wheel vibration between approx. 50mph to 80mph which I suspect just requires wheel balancing.
The car is taxed, tested and ready to go with all supporting paperwork covering the above in place.
